Barnicoat to start seventh at Lime Rock

Pirelli World Challenge, SprintX, Round 3: Lime Rock Park - Qualifying

Ben Barnicoat and K-PAX Racing team-mate Alvaro Parente will start the opening race of the third weekend of the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX series from seventh place following a qualifying session in mixed weather conditions.

Having set the quickest practice time a short time earlier in the pair’s McLaren 650 S GT3, Barnicoat set about the qualifying session which had been reduced from 35 minutes to a brief 10-minute showdown.

With weather conditions changing at the conclusion of the practice session immediately before, the drizzle intensified as Barnicoat headed out to set the third quickest early time of 58.506s around the 1.5-mile Connecticut circuit.

Having improved his time further, Barnicoat was also conscious to look after his wet weather tyres, with increased tyre pressures also hindering his lap times as he began to slip down the order.

In the final three minutes, with conditions brightening and the track beginning to dry, many cars within the 10-car Pro/Pro field improved their time, demoting Barnicoat to a seventh place start for the day’s later 60-minute opener.

Having driven the car in qualifying, regulations state that Barnicoat must begin race one, with Parente taking over when the pit window opens at the halfway mark.

The Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R machine of Patrick Long and Marc Lieb will begin on pole position, heading the CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Ryan Dalziel and Daniel Morad by 14 hundreds of a second.
